mRNA or messenger RNA is a type of nucleic acid in the cell. mRNA is made by transcribing DNA. This process is part of the protein biosynthesis where mRNA delivers the information from the DNA to the ribosomes where it is translated into amino acid sequences to form proteins. In contrast to most DNA, mRNA is single stranded. Instead of DNA’s iconic double helix consisting of two backbones and complementary nucleotide sequences, mRNA has only one single strand.
