Plants and Pipettes

we talk about plants and (used to) use pipettes

Simple things #1

In which we use Randall Munroe’s ‘simple writer‘ to explain plant-and-pipette topics. Can you guess what they are?

Monroe’s ‘simple writer’ limits language use to only the 10 hundred most common words in the English language. So the word ‘chloroplast’ is out. But so is ‘duck’, ‘cuddle’, and ‘explosion’.

We’ve tried to define a plant and pipette related word using only these common words. Can you tell what we’re talking about? The solution is shown at the bottom.

We think of them as green things, mostly as a group of many  tiny water bags that work together as one being, but sometimes they can also be just one tiny water bag. Their tiny water bags have a wall around them made of long stretches of joined together sweet stuff (joined in a certain way).

Their water bags also have smaller bags inside them. These smaller bags are what makes them green, and what allows them to use the light from the sun as ‘food’. We need these green things because they make the stuff we need to breathe, the stuff we need to eat, the stuff we need to make our homes from, and the stuff we need to make us better when we are not well.

Can you guess what we are describing?

Solution
The answer is: Plants!
